The Mahatta 2 occurrence is located in the southwestern head waters of Mahatta Creek, at an elevation of approximately 400 metres.
The regional geology consists of two thick volcanic and sedimentary cycles. The first is the Triassic Vancouver Group, consisting of the Karmutsen volcanics and Parson Bay and Quatsino limestones. The second is the Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group volcanics. These packages are intruded by the Middle Jurassic Island Intrusives. Prominent northeast- trending faults transect the area.
Locally, a rhyolite dike in skarned volcanic rock hosts chalcopyrite mineralization.
In 2010, a sample assayed 1.543 grams per tonne gold, 2.0 grams per tonne silver and 0.987 per cent copper (Sample RA212; Assessment Report 31721). In 2012, samples RM306 and RM307 assayed greater than 1 per cent copper with 21.36 and 17.09 grams per tonne gold, respectively (Assessment Report 33222).
In 2018, a rock sample (RA607) of skarned rhyolite assayed 0.724 per cent copper and 3.18 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 38428).
Work History
In 1970, BHP-Utah Mines completed a program of geological mapping and soil sampling on the area as the Brad Group. In 1990, Pan Orvana Resources explored the area, as a part of the Madhat claims, and identified a number of mineralized zones. During 2008 through 2012, North Island Exploration completed programs of rock and soil sampling, prospecting and geological mapping. In 2014, Homegold Resources Ltd. completed an air photo geological interpretation program on the area as the Kluska 2 claim. The following year, North Island Operators completed minor program of geological mapping on the area as the Mahatta property. In 2019, V. Buddick completed a minor program of prospecting, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling and geological mapping on the area as the Mahatta 1-3 claims.
